Leadership & Service Recognition

Megan Zuriliebe '15The Leadership and Service Awards Banquet on April 27, 2014 celebrated the inspirational contributions of these student leaders and organizations:

Student Hall of Fame:

Megan Zurliene ’15 (above), a senior music education major from Breese, Ill., led the Kappa Kappa Psi collegiate honor band fraternity’s Mu Alpha Chapter to record growth in membership.

Bearcat Pride:

Kirsten Ratermann ’14, an English major from Breese, Ill., was involved with Student Ambassadors, Sigma Sigma Sigma, the leadership program, and New Student Orientation.

The Spark:

Acadia Reynolds ’17, an elementary education major from New Orleans, La., is a Center for Public Service Scholar and executive board member of the Student Illinois Education Association.

ACES Award:

Jennifer Stroot ’14, an elementary education major from Shiloh, Ill., and Autumn Twardowski ’15, a senior elementary education major from Herod, Ill., both volunteered over 400 hours to University and community activities.

Student Intern & Employee:

Tim Rose ’14, a history major from Highland, Ill., worked in the archives since 2012; Lauren Haukapp ’16, a marketing major from Trenton, Ill., works with the athletics department’s event staff.

Country & Community:

MSgt Philip Chapman ’14, a Center for Scott Air Force Base student from Crestview, Fla., is an 18-year Air Force veteran, president of his homeowners’ association, chair of his church budget committee, a host parent for Rotary International’s Youth Exchange Program and a member of several academic honor societies.

Service Project:

Joseph Gebke ’16 and Justin Fix ’17, both military veterans from Breese, Ill., organized a “Rock Out for Wounded Warrior Foundation” benefit concert and raised $1,500.

Registered Student Organization & Bearcat Pride Organizational Award:

Wonders of Wellness collaborated with 10 other student organizations to host many creative, educational events on and off campus.

Collaborative Program:

“Test Your Gaydar” was hosted by Spectrum Alliance, Residence Life and Multicultural Affairs.

Social Fraternity/Sorority Chapter:

Kappa Sigma Tau sorority established a new constitution, recruitment and member education program; identified a new philanthropic focus; and reorganized its officer positions.
