Center for Faith & Spirituality
Welcome, I am the Rev. Dr. Beverly L. Wilkes-Null (Rev. Bev). On July 1, 2021, I became the University Chaplain. Being a University Chaplain is much different from being a local pastor or priest. For instance, pastors and priests serve among people who share their similar faith, and they participate in a common belief system. As a University Chaplain, I serve a diverse community of people. Some are religious, some or not. Those who identify as people of faith share many different views, and they come from many different faith expressions.
Our Bearcat Family includes: Muslims, Jewish Believers, Christians who are Catholic and Protestant, Buddhist, Hindu, in addition to many other faith traditions. We have atheists, agnostics, and explorers. Here at McKendree, it is our privilege to be present with our campus community as we celebrate and embrace the diversity that we are able to enjoy. We are also here for each other when we experience grief and loss. No matter how we identify ourselves, in times of hardship and distress, we are here to care for each other.
Our Bearcat Community has the opportunity to connect with each other in many ways as people of goodwill. Wherever you are on your journey, know that we are here to support you. We offer prayer and worship opportunities, as well as occasions to learn more about each other's spirituality and faith traditions. We invite you to attend bible studies, worship services on and off campus, mission trips, retreats, and other fellowship activities. We also invite you to share with us how we can assist you in finding the community that can best support you.
“You are the one who lights my lamp..." Psalm 18:28
Mission Statement
We are a diverse learning community of multiple faiths, and we welcome those who are
non-religious. Within this diversity, we seek to provide a safe, supportive space
for growth and development through religious, spiritual, ethical, and character development
within the McKendree community. We promote understanding and appreciation of the various
traditions through educational and cultural programming and a wide range of activities
including: worship, educational events, cross-cultural programs, immersion, service,
and mission trips that enrich students’ hearts and minds. We also seek to celebrate
our differences and foster McKendree students who will be effective and compassionate
global citizens who seek to be people of goodwill. Welcome to McKendree!
