Staff Membership
All Full-time McKendree students are eligible to apply to be a Campus Activities Street
Crew staff member.
To become a Programming Coordinator, full-time McKendree students with a minimum cumulative
GPA of 2.25 is required, and to become a Student Director, 2.5 GPA and some previous
experience within CAB is preferred - but not required. Campus Activities Board executive
positions are paid positions through work study or monthly stipend depending on budget
availability. Applications are generally taken at various times during the semester
depending on the number of open positions. To apply for a position, click on the

Meetings and Events
Come check us out and decide if CAB is for you. Our general meetings are currently
held on Mondays at 4pm in PAC 220. General meetings are open to our students. Many
of our events are held on various Wednesdays, Thursdays, or Fridays with some activities
on weekends.
We'd be glad to have you at our meetings to share ideas with us. If you are not able
to make it to a meeting, stop by our office in Lower Deneen or use the Contact CAB
link to send us an email.
Campus Activities Board (CAB) is here to serve our students and we respect and value
your opinions. We WANT to know what cool ideas or suggestions you have so we can
make your college experience even more exciting. Whether it's an idea for a new type
of entertainment, an opinion about a past or upcoming activity, or even a suggestion
for a movie to be shown on campus, we'd love to hear it. Does your campus organization
have a cool idea for a program? Campus Activities Board may co-sponsor it with you.

Our Directors and Program Coordinators
Student Director for Programming
The Student Director for programming is in essence, the voice of the Campus Activities
Board and will serve as the official representative on select committees (ie. RSO
President’s Forums). This position schedules and presides over the weekly meetings
of CAB and acts as a liaison with other campus organizations. The Student Director
for Programming works alongside the program coordinators and is responsible for making
sure scheduling deadlines are set and met and appropriate forms have been submitted.
The Student Director works closely with the Director of Campus Activities, assists
with primary coverage at scheduled events, and manages the day to day duties and goals
of Campus Activities Board. In their role, the Director should act as a facilitator,
role model, and Campus Activities Board team member. In fulfilling his or her duties,
the Director should seek to fulfill the mission of the Campus Activities Board and
the Office of Campus Activities.
Student Director of Public Relations and Promotion
The Student Director of Public Relations and Promotion oversees the coordination of
marketing and publicity for all CAB events by working closely with the programming
coordinators and Student Director for Programming. Good time management and planning
skills are a must for this position as advertising should be planned from a long-term
perspective that allows for adequate advance publicity.
The director is responsible for effectively using a committee and staff artists to
ensure that CAB and our programs are promoted as completely as possible. Making use
of new and innovative ideas including posters, flyers, banners, sidewalk chalk, campus
email, promotional materials/giveaways (including the CAB Card program), social networking
websites, etc., are expected.
The Student Director works closely with the Director of Campus Activities, assists with primary coverage at scheduled events, and manages the day to day duties and goals of Campus Activities Board. In their role, the Director should act as a facilitator, role model, and Campus Activities Board team member. In fulfilling his or her duties, the Director should seek to fulfill the mission of the Campus Activities Board and the Office of Campus Activities. This position is one of the best portfolio-building jobs offered to students at McKendree and it allows for plenty of creativity.
Student Director for Membership and Staff Development
Do you have an interest in meeting new people and planning staff events? This position
is responsible for assisting with our member recruitment process, new staff orientation,
staff retreats and socials. This position also trains our staff on our history, policies,
and procedures. The Student Director for Membership and Staff Development also helps
with planning a staff community service project and staff workshops to assist with
the development of leadership skills.
The Student Director works closely with the Director of Campus Activities, assists with primary coverage at scheduled events, and manages the day to day duties and goals of Campus Activities Board. In their role, the Director should act as a facilitator, role model, and Campus Activities Board team member. In fulfilling his or her duties, the Director should seek to fulfill the mission of the Campus Activities Board and the Office of Campus Activities.
Special Events Coordinator
Many of these programs are home –grown, low-budget activities that take place over the noon hour or late night in either Ames Dining Hall, 1828 Café, The Lair, or if weather permits, The Quad. Events are generally held on Wednesday (Wild Wednesday) or Friday (NACHOAVERAGEFRIDAY) and have included: Poster Sales, Grilled Cheese Night, Smoothie Hour, Caricature Artists, Tie Dye, Pimp Your Mug, and others! In many cases, these events include free food! Other events have included Brat-tober Fest, I Hate Valentine's Day Party, St. Patty's Day Pary, and others!
School Spirit Coordinator
The coordinator of the Team Bogey committee is responsible for planning crazy, fun, events related to McKendree spirit. Our goal is to promote activities and enthusiasm that will lead to lifelong involvement and commitment to McKendree Athletics and Team Bogey. Events may include: student tailgate parties, special game giveaways, chicken wing events in The Lair, contests, and other sports-related activities! This committee is also responsible for maintaining the membership and organization of McKendree's student cheering section, known as "The Purple Pit". We work together with the McKendree Pep Band and cheerleaders to get the crowds hyped up and to bolster Bearcat Spirit and Pride.
R.O.C. (Recreation and Off Campus)
Up for a little friendly competition? ROC coordinates gaming and recreational events
in the Lair and around campus. Some events like paintball and Laser Tag are held off
campus. Past events have included: Fantasy Football, Bingo Night, Deal or No Deal,
Team Trivia Night, Billiards Tournaments, Ping Pong Tournaments, Bags, Washers, Board
and Video Game Tournaments.
Bringing you the metro area and beyond, ROC also coordinates events found in the local
area, including those that appeal to on campus students as well as non-traditional
students or those that are commuters. Transportation may be offered at some events to
allow students who do not have cars the ability to go off campus and have fun – especially
on weekends. Events may involve discounted tickets to Fine Arts performances, concerts,
or sporting events. Day trips to shopping, festivals and other events are also common. Past
events have included: City Museum Trip, Maroon 5 concert, Memphis, TN DayTrip, St.
Louis Zoo, Taste of St. Louis, and St. Louis Cardinals Games.
Cinema/Talks and Topics
Cinema schedules a film series at The Lair featuring free popcorn, soda, and door prizes on select nights. Movies may consist of first run movies (those still in theaters) or home video released movies (classics or documentaries) based on popularity and student input. Cinema may also co-sponsor movies with other student organizations or offer discounted tickets to off campus theaters. In addition to movies, viewing parties are fun, scheduled events. Sporting events like professional football, hockey, racing, basketball, and baseball are common, as well as popular television series programming.
Talks and Topics programming can be serious, fun, educational, or a bit of all three! This position works to provide forums, lectures, and talks on a variety of issues and topics. Current programming includes the “Teach Me” series and the Food for Thought series. Teach Me is an hour long workshop to teach various skills. Past topics have included country line dancing, watercolor painting, and others. Food for Thought provides an opportunity for dinner and dialogue with campus or community figures in a small group setting.
Live Entertainment
The Live Entertainment Committee is responsible for providing a diverse selection of live performance events consisting of the musical and comedic variety. Typical music programming may consist of our coffeehouse show; featuring acoustic performers, small bands, karaoke, or an open mic setting. The atmosphere is intimate and light refreshments and flavored coffee drinks are served. Musical guests may also range from local and regional talent to recgnized nationally touring performers. Events may occur in The Lair, The Lair Pit, Ames Patio or Quad. Larger concerts may occur at The Hett. The committee also acquires tickets to St. Louis area concerts periodically and offers them at a discount to our students.
The Laughter at Half After Comedy Series! Live Entertainment showcases some of today’s
leading college-based, nationally touring comedians. Comedy events are scheduled on
select nights and have featured a variety of performers including: Kyle Cease (Not
Another Teen Movie), Greg Warren, Loni Love (VH-1’s I love the 80’s), Alex Thomas,
Dan Ahdoot, and more! This committee also brings in some variety entertainment like
Hypnotist Frederick Winters, Mentalist Christopher Carter, and Magician Nate Staniforth.
Traditions
We're all about tradition and plan some of the larger events that are available to
McKendree students, faculty, staff, their families, and the Lebanon community. These
are generally events that have been longstanding and unite tradition with memorable
moments. The events programmed by this committee include: both the fall and spring
Involvement Fairs, Bearcat Week, Fall Family Weekend, Homecoming, McKendree Idol,
and Spring Fling.
CAB Street Crew
The Campus Activities Board (CAB) Street Crew is made up of people just like you who want to get involved. All registered, full-time undergraduate students at McKendree University are eligible for membership in CAB as a volunteer Street Crew member. Selected members can choose a primary committee to work with. The more diverse our membership is, the better opportunity we have to present the kinds of programming our students love. Collectively, Street Crew members are the backbone of our staff working behind the scenes to make our events happen. They assist with the brainstorming and creative process of planning and promoting events and activities that our whole student body can enjoy. Being a Street Crew member is a great way to get involved, gain leadership experience, and have a great time planning events and meeting new and fun people.
Our goal is to give our Street Crew experiences that will lead towards applying for
a role on the Executive Board. Our Street Crew currently gets programming experience
by planning the spring semester Welcome Back event, the annual Super Bowl Party, and
the spring semester Stress Fest. It is required that Street Crew members work a minimum
of 3 events per month. Each event worked helps to build incentive points which can
lead to fun rewards!
Overview
While we maintain flexibility with our staff, joining a campus group does require
some commitment and a will to improve one’s self as well as the organization they
represent. Attendance, planning, decision-making, cooperation, commitment, and leadership
are the characteristics of a successful CAB member and you, regardless of role, represent
the future of CAB’s leadership.
All of our staff are considered student leaders and are expected to maintain a responsible
and professional image. Staff members are also expected to follow the student conduct
guidelines outlined in the Student Handbook as well as the member policies and regulations
set forth by the Campus Activities Board. Members are considered representatives of
CAB and McKendree University at all times.
