McKendree University is in the third and final year of transition to NCAA Division
II membership. The Bearcats are in their first year as members of the Great Lakes
Valley Conference. Within the last several months, McKendree has expanded its sports
programs to include men’s volleyball, women’s wrestling and bass fishing, bringing
the total number to 24.
The BASE program will serve as a complement to the University’s existing sport management program. Students who are accepted into the BASE program can be assigned to one of
several areas of work responsibilities. They include:
Sports Information
Students can assist with website maintenance, write game and feature stories, photograph games and contests, keep and maintain statistics, and post updates and notices on social media outlets.
Broadcasting
Students will have the opportunity to serve as a play-by-play announcer or color analyst for Bearcat athletic events, handle public address duties or interview players and coaches for video clips to air on the McKendree athletics website.
Sports Marketing
The focus in this segment will include special event planning, pre-game and halftime entertainment, and enhancement of the game-day experience.
Sport Business Management
Students will have the opportunity to experience the business side of an athletics department. Individuals could learn about team budgeting, fund raising and the preparation of travel arrangements for different athletics programs.
Team Management
This area includes filming of games for coaching staff and player review, preparing highlight videos and assisting with practice duties for assigned teams.
