**Tryout date has been set for the 2016-2017 year!**


Thank you for your interest in McKendree Cheerleading!

McKendree is a small, private liberal arts University with a growing cheerleading program.   The squad currently consists of 40 members.   The Cheerleading squad is currently broken down into 3 teams. 2 nationally competitive teams as well as 1 game day team. Game Day squad cheers at home games for football, men’s and women’s basketball. Both of the Coed Competitive squads cheer at all home football games, and selected men's and women's basketball games.

All 3 squads perform multiple times throughout the year.  

McKendree has competed at the NCA College Cheer & Dance Nationals held in Daytona Beach, Florida, as well as the Champion Spirit Group College Nationals in past years. We compete Small Coed Division II and placed 6th overall at NCA Collegiate Nationals in 2013, 3rd at the 2014 NCA Collegiate Nationals, 6th at the 2015 NCA Collegiate Nationals.   In 2016 McKendree will be taken 2 teams to NCA Nationals for the 1st time in SCHOOL HISTORY! The Bearcats will be competing Small Coed Division II and Intermediate Small Coed.

 

Requirements needed for tryouts:

 

Small Coed Competition Team Requirements: (Team Purple)

  • Jumps: Toe Touch, Pike, Front Hurdler, Double Toe Touch with minimum back handsprings (preferably tucks)
  • Running Tumbling Pass: Round off handspring tuck minimum  
  • Standing Tumbling: standing tuck
  • Stunting: Will be evaluated on primary stunting position, including stability and flexibility. Must be open minded and willing to try skills asked. REMINDER: most skills throw are illegal for high school cheerleading, and we know that. We want you to be willing to try and attempt skills so coaches are able to evaluate your work ethic and progression to help determine team placement.

Intermediate Coed Competition Team Requirements: (Team Gold)

  • Jumps: Toe Touch, Pike, Front Hurdler, Double Toe Touch (preferably with back handsprings or series after)
  • Running Tumbling Pass: Round off handspring minimum
  • Standing Tumbling: preferably back handspring
  • Stunting: Will be evaluated on primary stunting position, including stability and flexibility. Must be open minded and willing to try skills asked.

Game Day Requirements:

  • Jumps: Toe Touch, Pike, Front Hurdler, Double Toe Touch
  • Motions: Must be sharp and execute properly.
  • Stunting: Knowledge and Understanding of basic technique and will be evaluated on cleanliness and stability.
