Research Interests

    In 2008, Nichole DeWall completed her dissertation on early modern plague writing. She has presented at several national and international conferences on topics ranging from ritual and sexuality in Christopher Marlowe's
Edward II, medicine in Shakespeare, to feminism and Ophelia in Hamlet. This year, she will present her essay, "The Jailer's Daughter as Ariadne in Shakespeare's The Two Noble Kinsmen" at a conference for the International Society for Studies in Medievalism; she will also participate in a seminar at The Shakespeare Society of America conference at Georgetown University. Her essay, "Theater as pharmakon: Healing Mirth in Plague-time London," will appear in a forthcoming collection, A Plague on Both Your Houses (Ashgate). She is also working on a monograph, Shakespeare and the Plague: Trauma, Medicine, and Theatrical Healing in Early Modern England.
