McKendree University’s academic honor societies have embraced the long standing mission of maintaining academic excellence and leadership. Students who have earned the opportunity to join these prestigious organizations increase their career potential with an ever expanding network of fellow hardworking and dedicated members.

First Generation Student Honor Society

Alpha Alpha Alpha, also known as Tri-Alpha, is a national honor society established in 2018 to recognize and celebrate the academic achievements of first-generation college students.

Alpha Kappa Delta

International Sociology Honor Society

Advisor: Dr. Phillip Quisenberry and Dr. Robyn Swink

          Alpha Kappa Delta seeks to acknowledge and promote excellence in the scholarship in the study of sociology, the research of social problems, and              such other social and intellectual activities as will lead to improvement in the human condition.

          Alpha Kappa Delta is a non-secret, democratic, international society of scholars dedicated to the ideal of Anthropon Katamanthanein Diakonesein            or “to investigate humanity for the purpose of service.”

Alpha Psi Omega

National Honorary Theater Fraternity
Advisor: Michelle Magnussen

Alpha Psi Omega is the national honorary theater fraternity. McKendree’s Alpha Theta cast is one of the oldest in the country. The fraternity exists to honor students who have contributed to the theater program at McKendree and to foster an awareness and appreciation of theater in all McKendree students. Students earn points towards induction by participating in productions as actors or technical crew.

National Athletic Training Student Honor Society for students pursuing a career in athletic training. It's an honor society that recognizes academic achievement and promotes excellence in the field of athletic training and sports medicine.

Phi Alpha Theta, the international history honor society, promotes the study of history through the encouragement of research, good teaching, publication, and the exchange of learning and ideas among historians.

Phi Eta Sigma

First-Year Student Honor Society

Phi Eta Sigma, the nation's oldest and largest honor society for acknowledging success in a student's first or second semester of college and university students in all disciplines, encourages and rewards academic excellence. The organization's motto is "Knowledge is Power."

Phi Kappa Phi

Honor Society

Phi Kappa Phi is the nation's oldest, largest, and most selective all-discipline honor society. Phi Kappa Phi differs from most other honor societies because it draws its members from all academic disciplines and represents the best and brightest from the community of scholars. Membership is by invitation and requires nomination and approval by the local Phi Kappa Phi chapter.

Social Sciences Honor Society

Pi Gamma Mu is the international social science honor society. The society recognizes good scholarship and promotes excellence by enriching service projects, publications, a scholarship program, and guest lecture grants to chapters.

Pi Kappa Delta is national forensics (public speaking and debate) honor society for undergraduate university students and a professional organization for graduates, typically university speech and debate coaches.

Pi Mu Epsilon

Pi Mu Epsilon is dedicated to the promotion of mathematics and recognition of students who successfully pursue mathematical understanding.

Pi Sigma Alpha

Pi Sigma Alpha is the national political science honor society. The society recognizes academic excellence and promotes engagement, lifelong learning, and responsible citizenship by bringing together students and faculty interested in the study of government and politics.

Psi Chi

Psychology Honor Society

Advisor:  Dr. Guy Boysen

Psi Chi is the National Honor Society in Psychology. It is open to junior and senior psychology majors who rank in the top third of their class and have completed at least 9 hours in Psychology. Psi Chi was founded in 1929 to provide academic recognition to students and to nurture the spark of that accomplishment. Psi Chi is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies and is an affiliate of the American Psychology Association (APA) and the Association for Psychological Science (APS).

SALUTE

Veterans National Honor Society

SALUTE is the only national honor society in the nation recognizing and honoring the service and the scholastic achievements of this generation's greatest veterans.

Sigma Tau Delta

English Honor Society

Sigma Tau Delta is the international English honor society. Its purposes are to confer distinction for high achievement in English language and literature in undergraduate, graduate, and professional studies; to promote interest in literature and the English language on local campuses and their surrounding communities; and to foster the discipline of English in all its aspects, including creative and critical writing.

Nursing Honor Society

Founded in 1922 by six nursing students, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (Sigma) has more than 100,000 active members and 600 chapters at institutions of higher education and healthcare partners from Armenia, Australia, and Botswana to Thailand, the United States, and Wales. Sigma members include clinical nurses and administrators, academic nurse educators and researchers, policymakers, entrepreneurs, and others working to fulfill the organization’s vision of connected, empowered nurse leaders transforming global healthcare.
