New Student Orientation: What to Know
New Student Orientation is designed to help you successfully transition to McKendree University. During this experience, you will meet classmates, connect with faculty and staff, learn about campus resources, and prepare for the start of your academic journey.
Orientation Dates & Schedule
New Student Orientation will take place August 20–23, 2026.
A detailed schedule will be available in early July. Throughout Orientation, you will:
-
- Meet other new students
- Learn about campus resources and expectations
- Connect with faculty and staff
- Finalize your class schedule
Orientation is required for all new first-year students. Some evening programs for commuter students may be optional.
Class Registration
All students must meet with an academic advisor before registering for classes. Most students will complete this process during First Year Introduction (FYI), but for those who don't New Student Orientation is where it will occur.
If you have not yet met with an advisor, please contact the Office of Admissions at:
(800) BEARCAT or (618) 537-6831
Housing & Move-In
McKendree offers a variety of on-campus housing options. Students can complete the housing application and find additional information—including what to bring and what to expect—through the Office of Residence Life website.
Move-in instructions and parking information will be shared prior to Orientation. Look for the FAST Forward link in the Left Navigation.
Health Services & Required Forms
Students are required to submit health information prior to arrival. For questions or assistance, contact Health Services at: (618) 537-6503

Family members are encouraged to participate in Orientation programming.
For those traveling from a distance, several hotels in the Lebanon area offer accommodations,
with some providing special rates for McKendree families.

What to Wear
Most Orientation activities are casual and may involve walking or outdoor components. Comfortable clothing and shoes are recommended. You will also get some free McK gear and t-shirts to wear for specific events like the Tailgate Night and Class Photo.
Some events, such as Convocation, may be business casual.
Getting Connected
Orientation is your first opportunity to build community at McKendree. Students are strongly encouraged to attend all sessions and activities, including group meetings and interactive programs, to meet peers and begin forming connections.
