Sigma Tau Delta
Sigma Tau Delta is the international English honor society. Its purposes are to confer
distinction for high achievement in English language and literature in undergraduate,
graduate and professional studies; to promote interest in literature and the English
language on local campuses and their surrounding communities; and to foster the discipline
of English in all its aspects, including creative and critical writing.

The Society strives to:
• Confer distinction for high achievement in English language and literature in undergraduate,
graduate, and professional studies
• Provide, through its local chapters, cultural stimulation on college campuses and
promote interest in literature and the English language in surrounding communities
• Foster all aspects of the discipline of English, including literature, language, and
writing
• Promote exemplary character and good fellowship among its members
• Exhibit high standards of academic excellence
• Serve society by fostering literacy
The McKendree Sigma Tau Delta: International English honor society chapter requires
that a student take at least three upper-level English classes past ENG 111 and 112
and maintain a GPA of at least 3.0.Sigma Tau Delta International.
