Vasbinder Crowned NCAA Division II National Champion
The No.5 McKendree University men's wrestling team closed out the 2020-21 season at
the NCAA Division II Wrestling National Championship Saturday evening, finishing fifth
overall with 71.5 points and five All-Americans. No.1 Ryan Vasbinder (Wyoming, MI/Grandville)
was the lone Bearcats' National Champion, winning the 197-lb bracket.
No.1 Ryan Vasbinder (Wyoming, MI/Grandville) took down No.5 Zach Ryg of Upper Iowa
in a 6-0 decision for a chance at the title. Vasbinder capped off an unbelivable season
with a win over No.3 Dalton Abney of Central Oklahoma by a 12-0 decision for the title.
Vasbinder was crowned the 197-lb National Champion, earning All-American accolades.
This is Vasbinder's highest NCAA DII National Championship tournament placement and
first-ever title.
