McKendree University Students Present ‘The Green Bird,’ Nov. 2-5

LEBANON, Ill., October 24, 2017) — The McKendree University Department of Theatre presents “The Green Bird,” an 18th century commedia dell’arte play by Carlo Gozzi, Nov. 2-5 at the Hettenhausen Center for the Arts on campus. Performances are on Nov. 2 and 3 at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 4 at 1:30 p.m., and Nov. 5 at 2:30 p.m. Admission is free.

According to the Playscripts, Inc. website, “the king is lost, the queen is buried alive, the kingdom is in ruins, and all is bleak . . . but this is a comedy! When nobody else is worthy of the title of hero, it’s up to twins Renzo and Barbarina to unravel the mystery of the Green Bird in time to save everyone from themselves. The wild, chaotic road to ‘happily ever after’ is paved with curses, clowns, demons, enchanted fruit, and a talking statue who keeps losing control of the story he is narrating.”

Cast members are Chloe Thies (Calmon), Adam Kaul (Tartaglia), Virginia Parkinson (Ninetta), Lyndellia Mannie (Pantalone), Emma Webster (Smeraldina), Matthew Hendricks (Brighella), Becca Moss (Franceschina), Brett Hanna (Truffaldino), Jacob Wilson (Renzo), Genna Fanning (Barbarina), Demarco Brownlee (The Green Bird), Delilah Donaldson (Fata Serpentina), and Korenna Anderson (Pompea).
