McKendree University Awards Zane Phillips with Technos International Prize May 9

Zane Phillips(LEBANON, Ill., May 15, 2025) – Zane Phillips, an international relations major from Chambersburg, Ill., received the 2025 Technos International Prize on Friday, May 9 during the undergraduate commencement ceremony. The Technos International Prize is given each year by the Tanaka Ikueikai Educational Trust for outstanding academic achievement and a commitment to the cause of international understanding.

At McKendree, Phillips is a member of McKendree’s Honors Program, the men’s wrestling team, and the secretary general of the university’s Model United Nations program. He is also a member of Phi Eta Sigma, Pi Gamma Mu, and Pi Sigma Alpha honor societies at McKendree. The university also recently honored him as their outstanding student in the study of international relations.

Phillips is also a research assistant for Dr. Brian Frederking, professor of political science. His role in Dr. Frederking’s current research project involves analyzing resolutions passed by the United Nations Security Council and searching for references to international law.

This spring, Phillips was also selected to participate in the highly competitive, yearlong paid fellowship as an English language teaching assistant at Technos International College this upcoming fall in Tokyo, Japan. Technos International College partners with several sister schools for this annual internship program. Only two students are selected for the unique opportunity to work internationally in the field of education while experiencing all that Japan and its history, culture, and traditions have to offer.
