Owens Headlines the Hett Black History Month Concert on Feb. 23

(LEBANON, Ill., February 8, 2021) — The Hettenhausen Center for the Arts at McKendree University announces the premiere of its Black History Month Concert, a tribute to the spirit, heart and soul of African American music and culture. The event will be live streamed on the Hett’s YouTube channel and Facebook page on Tuesday, Feb. 23 at 7 p.m.  

Special guest artists will feature father-son duo Thomas and Brian Owens, whose soulful cover of Sam Cooke’s “A Change is Gonna Come” has attracted more than 100 million views on Facebook and on Brian Owens’ YouTube channel. The concert will also include performances by vocalist Courtney Walker; Anthony Wiggins and Friends in a Miles Davis tribute; and readings by McKendree University students. 

The concert is sponsored by Ameren Illinois and the university’s Social Justice and Equity Committee.
