McKendree University Smashes “One McKendree” Giving Day Record During Founders Week

(LEBANON, Ill., Feb. 23, 2026) – McKendree University commemorated its 198th birthday with its fourth-annual Founders Week celebration, culminating in a remarkable One McKendree Giving Day. This day saw incredible success, with the McKendree community rallying together to raise more than $673,000 in a culmination of more than 649 generous gifts. This total surpassed last year’s record-breaking donations of $526,000. Additionally, these contributions supported several different funds and programs essential to advancing the university’s mission and empowering its students, including the Annual Fund, athletics, the Bearcat Pantry, the Hett, the Lair, and more.

“Surpassing last year’s record is a testament to the momentum and pride within the McKendree community,” said Stephen Kull, vice president for institutional advancement at McKendree University. “The One McKendree Giving Day continues to grow each year, and this level of engagement reinforces the confidence our supporters have in the direction and impact of the University. As this tradition strengthens, the involvement of our alumni and friends remains essential to sustaining this impact and ensuring McKendree’s success for generations to come.”

In honor of the university’s founding year, the giving day lasted 1828 minutes, symbolizing McKendree’s enduring legacy since 1828. This year Bearcats were challenged to “Raise the Roar” and show support for the university. Throughout the week, activities that celebrated the power of giving and community engagement through fun and meaningful experiences took place, and several giving challenges were issued. The campus community learned about philanthropy, hosted a Preview Day for future Bearcats, took part in a record-breaking “Dollars for Donuts” event, and sang Happy Birthday to McKendree in Ames Dining Hall on Feb. 20, the day in which the university was founded. Members of the community also participated in gratitude stations during the celebration.

The success of the One McKendree Giving Day emphasizes the profound dedication and spirit of giving with the McKendree community, solidifying its reputation as a leader in higher education. This year’s sponsors included Rent One Home Furnishings, RNR Tire Express, Great Expectations Foundation, Holland Construction Services, Impact Marketplace, President Dan C. Dobbins ’81 and Mrs. Mickey Dobbins ’81, Jim Forrler ’65, the McKendree University Board of Trustees, and the McKendree University Alumni Association Board of Directors.
