Baldwin and Simmons Join the McKendree Speech and Debate Team

Lebanon, Ill. — The McKendree University Speech and Debate Team recently welcomed two new member, Alex Baldwin and Gage Simmons.

Baldwin, of Heyworth, Ill., participated in theater, chess club and key club in high school. He is a dean’s and leadership scholarship recipient at McKendree. “I’m excited to dive into debate and meet my new teammates,” he said.

Simmons, of Nashville, Ill., participated in student council, scholar bowl and drama. He is a president’s and leadership scholarship recipient at McKendree. “I am looking forward to the upcoming year with the McKendree Speech and Debate Team,” he said.

“I’m very pleased that Alex and Gage will be competing for us next year,” said Joe Blasdel, debate coach. “They are both talented students who I’m sure will continue the success of the McKendree Speech and Debate team.”

McKendree University is a College of Distinction, among “America’s 100 Best College Buys,” and recognized as a “Military Friendly School” by Victory Media for 2014. Founded in 1828, the historic Lebanon, Ill., campus is 25 miles from downtown St. Louis. McKendree also has campuses in Louisville and Radcliff, Ky., and offers programs at Scott Air Force Base and other sites throughout Illinois and Kentucky.
