University Chaplain, Director of Church Relations, and Coordinator for the Dr. Lyn Huxford Center for Community Service

McKendree University welcomes applications for the University Chaplain, Director of Church Relations, and Coordinator for the Dr. Lyn Huxford Center for Community Service.  Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs, this position oversees the work of the Center for Faith and Spirituality promoting understanding and appreciation of the various traditions through educational and cultural programming and a wide range of activities including: worship, educational events, cross-cultural programs, immersion, service, and mission trips that enrich students’ hearts and minds. Additionally, this position is the liaison to the Board of Higher Education of the United Methodist Church. The University Chaplain will also coordinate the volunteer and service learning activities of the Dr. Lyn Huxford Center for Community Service. 

Minimum qualifications include:

 

  • A Master’s degree in religion and/or education;

  • Ordained minister with three (3) years of experience in ministerial and/or educational work; familiarity with the United Methodist Church and the Great River Conference;

  • An ability and aptitude in working with students in a higher education setting;

  • A desire to lead a diverse learning community of multiple faiths and those who are non-religious;

  • Ability to integrate reflective practices in daily work with a commitment to social justice.

  • An ability to manage competing priorities with professionalism; strong communication skills;

  • Provides counseling, as needed, to the University community.


Advanced degree desired.
