School of Education Chair

McKendree University seeks a dynamic, engaged, and student-centered School of Education Chair to join our team. 

The successful candidate will foster responsible citizenship, ignite curiosity, and encourage students to develop into forward thinking and engaged individuals.

The School of Education Chair serves primarily in an administrative leadership role to the School of Education. The chair will coordinate academic matters within the School of Education with overseeing preparing class schedules for on-campus, off-campus, and online courses while serving as a liaison with the associate provost, dean of Worldwide Programs, Academic Records office, and other offices.  The School of Education Chair provides direction and evaluation for faculty evaluations as provided by the Faculty Manual. The chair provides strong leadership, thoughtful mentoring, and coordinates the hiring process for the licensure officer and field experience coordinator, academic advisor, and adjunct faculty.  Other duties include managing the operating budget(s), ensuring instructional quality and academic integrity, fostering appreciation of creative or scholarly activity among faculty and students, leading and participating in social justice and equity initiatives, and participating in student recruitment and retainment efforts.        

The School of Education Chair will be responsible for the following: 

  • working closely in a supervisory role with the director of the graduate and doctoral programs;  
  • monitoring and overseeing all accreditation requirements from the Illinois State Board of Education including state reports and updates;
  • being a creative and analytical thinker, innovative and pragmatic, and supportive of the mission of the institution; 
  • articulating the vision of theSchool of Education and the university’s unique character and promising future; 
  • analyzing complex issues, make decisions, and manage multiple priorities and diverse workloads; 
  • creating a team environment and fostering cooperation and respect among diverse constituents; 
  • supporting cultural diversity; 
  • developing relationships with faculty, students, staff, alumni, and other constituents;  
  • understanding the importance of emerging technologies and promote the application of instructional technology.

The candidate must possess an earned doctoral degree from a regionally accredited institution, strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, and proven management skills in higher education.
