Public Safety Officer

McKendree University is accepting applications for the position of Public Safety Officer. This is a full-time position located in Lebanon, Illinois and reports to the Director of Public Safety.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Police Academy. All candidates must be 21 years of age or older and able to complete the physical fitness “P.O.W.E.R. successfully” test mandated by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board. Must also possess certification from the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board (I.L.E.T.S.B.) as a certified full-time police officer, be eligible to be granted a waiver of basic training from I.L.E.T.S.B., or must successfully complete the next available full-time S.W.I.C.
  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • No record or criminal convictions of a felony or a crime involving moral turpitude.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, must pass annual DMV check, and be insurable.
  • Possess a valid Firearm Owners Identification Card (FOID).
  • Must Possess an Illinois Police Officer Certification within six months of the appointment unless waivered in accordance with ILCS 50, Act 705/8.1.g
  • Must pass a background check, psychological test, and drug test.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in police/security/military work a plus.
  • Ability to identify problems quickly and make accurate, timely decisions.
  • Ability to interact effectively with students, employees, and management.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

WORK HOURS/CONDITIONS:

12-hour shifts, shift work, weekends and holidays included. Position requires extensive walking, working outdoors in all types of weather.
