Provost

McKendree University seeks candidates for the position of Provost.  The Provost will report to and work closely with the President to provide academic direction for the University. McKendree University is a private, comprehensive, regional university in Lebanon, Illinois, with a strong tradition in the liberal arts and a focus on excellent teaching.  With a total enrollment of over 2,500 students, McKendree offers undergraduate and graduate programs on campus, online, and at off-site locations in Southern Illinois and Kentucky.

Responsibilities: 

The Provost is the Chief Academic Officer of the University, providing primary administrative leadership, direction and evaluation for all academic activities and faculty affairs of the university.  The Provost provides leadership to, and is responsible for, the planning and administration of the University’s academic divisions and supports the continuing professional development of McKendree’s faculty and academic staff.  The Provost ensures instructional quality and academic integrity, fosters appreciation of creative and scholarly activity among faculty and students, and supports advancement of liberal arts and professional programs.  The Provost leads and participates in social justice and equity initiatives.

  • demonstrate a commitment to shared governance;

  • understand the importance of emerging technologies and promote the application of instructional technology.

Career Path Leading to this Position: 

The successful candidate will have:

  • an earned doctoral degree from a regionally accredited institution;
  • higher education academic leadership experience as a tenured faculty member and as an administrator with a record of teaching, scholarship and creative accomplishments that exhibit commitment to academic excellence at a regionally accredited four-year institution;
  • proven management skills in higher education.

Compensation:  

Annual compensation will be competitive and commensurate with experience.  The University provides a comprehensive benefits package.  Relocation assistance is available.

McKendree University is located in the historic city of Lebanon, IL with a downtown business district located within easy walking distance from the campus.  The location is a blend of the rural and urban.  Only 25 minutes from downtown St. Louis to the west, McKendree University is equally close to the popular Carlyle Lake outdoor recreation area to the east.
