Library Assistant

McKendree University seeks applications for an evening library assistant whose job responsibilities will include supervising student workers and assisting with technical and public services. This is a 10-month position, August through May of each year. Hours are Sunday through Thursday, 3:00 p.m. to midnight.

Primary Duties:

  • Managing the library during the evening shift, including supervision of student workers.
  • Assisting library users in basic questions and instructing them on the use of copiers, printers, and other library technology.
  • Ongoing technical services projects including material processing, cataloging, and statistics.
  • Serving as support for library faculty.
  • Maintaining office supplies and files.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required qualifications: High school diploma and basic proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Preferred qualifications: College-level coursework or Library Technician degree; prior experience working in an academic or public library. Experience in a supervisory role/work in customer service. Ability to adapt and learn new skills on the job.
