IT Security Analyst

McKendree University welcomes applications for the position of IT Security Analyst located at its Lebanon, IL campus.  This is a full-time, benefits eligible position.

Reporting to the Director of IT and Chief Information Officer, the qualified candidate will perform cyber threat intelligence analysis, correlate actionable security events, perform network traffic analysis and develop corrective action plans for vulnerabilities identified to assist in strengthening the current cybersecurity plan through risk assessments and implementation of new security initiatives.  

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:      

  • Review open-source intelligence for threats.
  • Conduct regular information security risk assessment of security controls, programs, and procedures.
  • Complete cyber analysis of potential events.
  • Report incidents to management.
  • Contribute in development and periodic updates of technical security standards.
  • Develop and maintain security system processes and operation documentation.
  • Ability to manage security-related implementation projects from start to finish.
  • Other duties as assigned by manager.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Cyber Defense, or related field.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Prior learning and development, project management, and data analysis required.
  • Understanding of life cycle of network threats, attacks, attack vectors, and methods of exploitation.
  • Excellent communication skills to provide training to end users on security initiatives.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:   

  • Minimum, 2 years of cyber threat analysis.
  • Unix/Linux command line experience.
  • Experience with malware analysis concepts and methods.
  • Knowledge of architecture, engineering, and operations of at least one enterprise SIEM platform.
  • Demonstrated commitment to training, self-study and maintaining proficiency in the technical cybersecurity domain.

WORK HOURS/CONDITIONS:

  • Office environment with routine walking to other campus buildings and offices; normal business hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; occasional evenings and weekend commitments.
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
