Financial Aid Counselor

McKendree University is accepting applications for the position of Financial Aid Counselor.  This is a full-time administrative position located in Lebanon, Illinois and reports to the Director of Financial Aid.

Under general supervision, provide counseling on all aspects of financial aid awarding and packaging within the assigned caseload.  Responsible for maintaining students' financial aid records in compliance with Federal, State, and Institutional policy. Resolve financial aid issues and take proactive steps to counsel students about their financial aid options. 


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • 1-2 years of experience working with the public in financial matters. 


  • Detail oriented with ability to organize multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Working knowledge of various computer applications (database, word processing, and spreadsheets).
  • High level of independent judgement.
  • Strong commitment to customer service.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and appreciation of service to others. 


  • Previous experience within a Financial Aid Office at a college or university.
  • Knowledge of Ellucian Colleague software.
