Educational Technology Manager

McKendree University is accepting applications for the Educational Technology Manager.  This is a full-time administrative position located in Lebanon, Illinois and reports to the Chief Information Officer and Director of Information Technology.

The Educational Technology Manager works collaboratively with faculty, staff, and other team members at McKendree to design quality online and blended courses and applies research-based best practices in course design and leverages effective tools, resources, and techniques that enhance student learning.  This role includes project management and building strong collaborative relationships with the McKendree University team on initiatives that involve multiple instructional design projects or longer-term division programs, in alignment with McKendree University's strategic priorities.  The Educational Technology Manager will play a key role in contributing to the professional development of faculty, staff and students in the use of educational technologies and instructional design services, particularly with the University’s learning management system, Brightspace. 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with faculty as an eLearning resource providing technical, instructional design, and consulting services to augment online, blended, and web enhanced courses.
  • Develop training materials and multimedia content that promote best practices in teaching with technology.
  • Provide professional development opportunities, tutorials, and training materials for faculty teaching distance learning courses.
  • Hold web and face-to-face workshops to train faculty on using teaching materials
  • Assist faculty use of enhancements to the University’s learning management system including anti-plagiarism tools, web-based video conferencing and media platform for creating and managing audio and video files.
  • Supervise, train and lead others performing similar work.
  • Collaborate with faculty members to generate positive working relationships and assist with course content development in online, blended, and web-enhanced courses.
  • Review new or revised courses for overall course quality, alignment with student learning outcomes, to assure and adhere to program standards, guidelines, and practices for approval through a quality assurance process.
  • Ensure compliance with ADA accessibility requirements for online learning.
  • Other instructional design tasks, committee service, or duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree preferably in Instructional Design, Education, Communication, Multimedia Design, Educational Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience in related field required, including instructional design, online learning, instructional technologies, and training design and facilitation, preferably in a higher education setting.
  • Demonstrated experience in design and development of technology-based instructional content across a broad range of disciplines.
  • Demonstrated ability to proofread, edit, and produce effective written materials and multimedia presentations.
  • Technology Skills: MS Office, multimedia, learning management systems, and supported tools (i.e., D2L, Zoom, Ally, Kaltura, Techsmith)
  • Support foundational pedagogical teaching and learning principles in relation to adult learners integrating Universal Design for Learning (UDL) strategies, instructional design models, and learning theories to generate authentic learning experiences.
  • Knowledge of best practices in curriculum mapping, assignment design, rubrics, formative, and summative learning.
  • Competency in mastering and teaching new and emerging tools and technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to manage high volume workload with accuracy utilizing solid time management prioritize work, multitask, and evaluate situations to make sound decisions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Education, Communications, Instructional Design, Multimedia Design, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in building courses in a Learning Management System (particularly D2L (Desire 2 Learn) Brightspace) and multimedia production/editing experience strongly preferred.
  • College-level teaching experience; preferably online or blended.
  • Quality Matters, OLC, or related certifications.
