Director of Communications

McKendree University is seeking a Director of Communications to join the University Communications and Marketing team. This individual will be a proficient writer with excellent proven research, copyediting, and proofreading skills for a wide range of communications including enrollment, retention, development, and academic publications and programs, speechwriting, video scripts, feature stories, messaging (including crisis messaging), web content, and both routine and special communications to the University community and the public. This position will also serve as lead writer and copy editor for The Magazine for McKendree; assist with taking photographs; work as part of a team; show initiative and independence in carrying out responsibilities; manage multiple tasks simultaneously; and work under tight deadlines.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, English or related field, plus five years’ professional experience in writing, copyediting, communication management, higher education or corporate communication. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, DSLR cameras, and AP style writing is preferred. Some evening and weekend work required. 

McKendree University is a private university located in the historic city of Lebanon, Illinois, 25 minutes from downtown St. Louis.  With a total enrollment of over 2,500 students, McKendree offers undergraduate and graduate programs on campus, online, and at off-site locations in Southern Illinois and Kentucky.
