Director of Financial Aid

McKendree University invites applications and nominations for a dynamic and highly-skilled financial aid professional to serve as Director of Financial Aid.  Reporting to the Vice President for Admission and Financial Aid, the director has primary responsibility for leadership, resource management and administrative oversight of all the University’s financial aid programs and the daily operation of the Office of Financial Aid. 

   Responsibilities include:

  • Serve as the campus authority on federal, state, institutional and other financial aid programs.
  • Interpret, develop, implement and revise policies and procedures to ensure compliance with federal and state laws, regulations and college policies related to financial aid and scholarships.
  • Provide extraordinary customer service to all internal and external constituents.
  • Ensure accurate delivery of financial aid to qualified students in a supportive and timely manner.
  • Conduct financial aid presentations and participate in outreach activities such as Preview Days, First Year Introduction, New Student Orientation, and FAFSA workshops.
  • Work in a collaborative and professional manner to solve issues regarding college affordability, access, and financial literacy.
  • Develop priorities and goals to maximize Financial Aid’s role in strategic enrollment
  • Other duties as assigned.

    Required Qualifications 
  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years of related managerial experience in a college or university setting.
  • Thorough knowledge of state and federal regulations regarding student aid programs.
  • Direct budget development and packaging experience related to enrollment and budget goals.

    Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree and at least five years of experience within a financial aid office at the assistant or associate director level.
  • Experience supporting the implementation of a “one-stop” financial service center.
  • Thorough knowledge of state and federal regulations and rules.
  • Knowledge of NCAA Division 2 regulations.
  • Familiarity and experience with Ellucian Colleague and Self Service.
  • Strong strategic vision, independent judgment, problem-solving capabilities.
  • Well-developed analytical and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with undergraduate, graduate, professional degree programs, and online learning environments.

    In this position, you will have the opportunity to transform McKendree University by establishing and managing the University’s first One-Stop Student Financial Services Office.  The model is expected to rely heavily on cross-trained staff, sophisticated transaction-enabling self-service software, intuitive online portals, superior customer service, and thorough integration of traditional services. This model is intended to be student-centered and technologically rich, and from a student's perspective, simple. All McKendree students will be served under this model whether they are enrolled at the Lebanon campus, satellite campus, or an online program.
