Center for Public Service Mission & Goals
The Center for Public Service supports volunteer activities and the development of
curricular programs that link community service to academic coursework. McCat, the
McKendree Community Action Team is the student coordinated volunteer corp. supported
by the Center. The goals of the Center are to contribute to the intellectual development,
sense of social responsibility, and active citizenship of students by engaging them
in meaningful and academically sound service experiences which:
(1) enhance the understanding of each discipline;
(2) provide an opportunity to practice skills specific to the various disciplines;
(3) foster personal growth as an active member of a community of learners; and,
(4) cultivate the intellect and spirit of persons who care for one another and for
the world in which they live and work.
The Center for Public Service strives to foster a commitment to service at all levels
of campus life. The Center provides a clearinghouse of information on and opportunities
for community service and the staff of the Center work with the community to determine
how McKendree students, faculty, and staff can help serve their needs.
"How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment to change the world."
