Head Coach / Spirit Director

Steve comes to McKendree from the University of South Alabama with a degree in Exercise Science. While at South Alabama, Steve cheered and competed at the UCA College National Championships for 5 years and was named captain of his team in his senior year. After graduating, he was named Head Coach of  University South Alabama Cheerleading for an additional 5 years and coached the team to numerous top finishes at the UCA College National Championships.

Steve also comes to us as the former USA Gymnastics Trampoline & Tumbling, Alabama state director. He has a wealth of knowledge in the sport, accumulating countless state, regional and national champions and was also a USA national team coach at the World Championships in Hannover, Germany.

Over the past 20 years, he has worked with, and learned from, the best coaches and athletes in the industry  as a coach and cheer director at the world renowned Woodward Camp in Woodward, PA and Woodward West in California.

With over 20 years of experience in cheerleading, he has produced numerous All-Star National Championship teams, which include a first place finish at the prestigious, NCA All-Star National Championships in Dallas, TX. 

 

Brittney Scott 

Graduate Assistant 

Brittney graduated from McKendree University in December of 2015 with a degree in Secondary English Education. She was a flyer for the Bearcat Cheerleading Squad from 2011-2015. During that time, she helped make program history by being a part of the teams that advanced to finals and placed 3rd at NCA College Nationals for the first time.

Previously, she worked as an assistant coach for the Varsity team at Taylorville High School. Then, she became the Junior Varsity Coach at Mascoutah High School where she lead her team to the ICCA State Championships for the first time, placing 8th overall. She has been involved in cheerleading for 11 years.

 

Evonne Huelsmann 

Graduate Assistant 

Evonne graduated from McKendree University in May of 2015 with a degree in Mathematics and Management. A part of the Bearcat Cheerleading squad from 2011-2015, she also helped make program history as a part of the teams which advanced to finals and placed 3rd at NCA College Nationals for the first time.

She brings great experience from Breese Central High School - home of the 4x IHSA Small Varsity State Champions. Evonne has been involved in cheering for 12 years.
