Fitness and Recreation
Work it out! We know how important fitness and recreation is to you.
Student Recreation understands in order to excel academically, you need to have opportunities
outside the classroom where you can meet other students, socialize, develop leadership
skills, and have the opportunity for fun competition at the non-intercollegiate level.
We contribute to all of those areas.
We cater to you!
You’re welcome to form a team and compete in one of the several leagues we organize
over the course of the year such as sand volleyball, flag football, basketball, or
court volleyball. As a student, you’re also welcome to use your leadership skills
and organize an athletic event of your own and simply use the resources of the intramural
office whether that means reserving gym space or borrowing athletic equipment. Future
recreational plans include non-traditional opportunities from rock-climbing to skydiving,
many of which will be evening or weekend activities. If Federal Work Study is included
in your financial aid package, you may apply for student employment at a variety of
locations across the campus to include the Intramural Gym and the Fitness Center.
Stop by either location to apply.
Intramural (IM) Gym and Fitness Center
The Intramural Gym is available for academic classes, athletic practices, special
events, and general student use throughout the year. Our Fitness Center has a number
of treadmills, ellipticals, and exercise bikes as well as dumbbells and free weights.
The hours vary throughout the calendar year.
McKendree University currently hosts two major running events each year:
• “Ramble into Spring” 5K/10K/10-Mile Run
• “Harvest Challenge” 5K/Half Marathon Run
You can be part of this fun by:
1. Participating in the events
2. Volunteering to help with the events
3. Serving in a leadership role as a member of our Race Day staff
