Academic Scholarships

As a student entering from high school, in order to qualify for an academic scholarship at McKendree, you must meet one of the following criteria:

G.P.A.: Equivalent to 3.4 on 4.0 grade scale OR Composite ACT: 25 or higher

Students who qualify will be invited to attend one of two scholarship events:

1) McKendree Scholarship Days - In order to be eligible, students must meet the above criteria and be admitted to McKendree. Students meeting these criteria will be awarded a Presidential scholarship ranging from $4,000 to $10,000. Please contact your admission counselor for more information.

OR

2) McKendree Board of Trustees Scholarship Event –  In order to be eligible, students must have the equivalent of a 3.7 GPA on a 4.0 scale, a composite ACT score of 30 or higher, and be admitted to McKendree. Students meeting these criteria will be awarded a Board of Trustee’s scholarship ranging from $11,000 to $17,000. Please contact your admission counselor for more information.

Both events include two fifteen-minute interviews and an essay portion. Scholarship amounts will be determined on the basis of the above academic criteria and the student’s performance in interviews and essay.

Renewability – An Important Factor to Consider

Academic scholarships are renewable for up to four years (eight semesters) provided that certain conditions are met.  In addition to the GPA requirements below, students must complete 15 hours of community service each year.  This is coordinated through the Center for Public Service.  The important point of difference at McKendree is that academic renewability criteria take effect at the conclusion of the sophomore year (fourth semester). This is a critical difference between McKendree and other schools. It means that students who have completed their 15 hours of community service are not in danger of losing their academic scholarships after their first year in college.
