Writing Center
Who We Are
The Writing Center is located at 509 Stanton Street, just behind Holman Library and
Voigt Science. We offer writing assistance to all students, faculty, and staff, either
by appointment or on a walk-in basis during posted hours. We also assist students
who are not located on the Lebanon campus using an online program which allows students
and writing consultants to work in real time in a virtual meeting room.
What We Do
Our philosophy at the Writing Center is to help writers help themselves. What that
means is that we will not just proofread a paper. Our job is instead to help students
become better writers. We try to offer help with the following:
1. Developing invention techniques
2. Creating a good thesis
3. Improving organizational skills
4. Improving audience awareness
5. Improving unity and coherence
6. Improving proofreading skills
7. Improving grammar skills
8. Developing sentence clarity and sentence variety
9. Developing methods of revision
10. Improving research and documentation skills (APA or MLA)
How to Utilize
Setting Up An Appointment
Call 618-537-6510 to set up an appointment or stop by during posted hours. It is better
to set up an appointment because walk-in sessions are available only if no other students
have scheduled appointments. You can also email us at writingcenter@mckendree.edu
to set up an appointment.
Preparing for a Tutoring Session
Students should come to a tutoring session with a copy of their essay and/or a copy
of the assignment they have been given. Because we are a student-centered facility,
students should make sure to bring a copy of their assignment and any drafts or notes they
have developed for the assignment.
