Student Development and Leadership
The Office of Student Development and Leadership, as a division of Student Affairs,
oversees Leadership Programs, Transfer Student Support Initiatives, and Study Abroad
coordination.
We are excited to launch two new co-curricular leadership programs for McKendree students:
an Emerging Leaders Program and an Advanced Leadership Program.
The Emerging Leaders Program
The Emerging Leaders Program is a program for first- and second-year students who
are beginning to explore leadership growth and opportunities at McKendree University.
This program will contain bi-weekly workshops, fun on- and off-campus activities,
ample team-builders, and a service project. Students in the Emerging Leaders Program
will be mentored by students in the Advanced Leadership Program and will also be expected
to interview and shadow their mentor to learn more about how they came to be a leader
on McKendree’s campus. Select members of the Emerging Leaders Program will travel
to Topeka, Kansas, to compete in the Leadership Challenge Event in March.
Qualifications:
An interest to learn more about yourself and a passion for leadership. Must apply, interview, and be selected to participate in the program. Application deadline for the Emerging Leaders Program is late-September each year.
The Advanced Leadership Program
The Advanced Leadership Program is an intensive, experiential leadership learning
program for a select cohort of upperclassman students who are already active leaders
at McKendree. This group will attend conferences, get new ideas for leading their
group(s), and learn from one another’s leadership experiences on campus. The Advanced
Leadership Program will consist of bi-weekly workshops, on- and off-campus activities,
reflection, and service, as well as provide for the opportunity to mentor a student
in the Emerging Leaders Program. Select members of the Advanced Leadership Program
will travel to New Orleans to take part in the Leadership Exchange Program, a four-day
leadership learning experience in the Spring of each year.
Qualifications:
Current leadership role(s) in campus/community organizations, clubs, and programs.
Must apply, interview, and be selected to participate in the program. Application deadline for the Advanced Leadership Program is mid-September each year.
