1828 Opens for Casual Dining
10/29/2008
A new place on the McKendree University campus known as 1828 is a place to relax over coffee, grab a quick snack, or have lunch or dinner with a friend.
Following an official ribbon cutting on Wednesday morning, Oct. 29, students, faculty and staff noshed on samples of quesadillas, chicken panini sandwiches and pretzel cheeseburgers at the lunchtime grand opening.
Named for the year McKendree was established, 1828 is located in the former Pearsons Hall banquet room, which was brightened and updated with white paint, new carpeting, contemporary décor and two big screen televisions. A semi-circular food and coffee bar serves freshly made sandwiches, salads, desserts and beverages.
Hours are currently Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Although 1828 is currently closed on the weekend, it may stay open in the future for Preview Days or other special events.
Breakfast is served until 11 a.m., with pancakes, omelets, baked goods and more. The lunch and dinner menu offers nachos, quesadillas, burgers, sandwiches, fruit, salads, soup and chili. Vegetarian options include a meatless Garden Burger and a grilled veggie panini. To satisfy a sweet tooth, 1828 serves ice cream, a caramel-topped brownie pie, cheesecake or cookies. Prices range from $1.50 to $5.50.
“We have needed a space where people can gather, relax and enjoy a quick meal,” said Dr. James Dennis, university president.
