McKendree University Business Students Earn 32 Awards at State Competition

Lebanon, Ill. – McKendree University’s Phi Beta Lambda chapter collected 32 awards at the 2008 Future Business Leaders of America – Phi Beta Lambda (FBLA-PBL) State Leadership Conference, held April 4th – 5th in Effingham, Ill.
Competing for McKendree were seniors Tiffany Ratermann (Breese, Ill.), Jesse Sample (Fenton, Mo.) and Matt Whetstone (Carmi, Ill.); juniors Chris Andrews (Highland, Ill.), Timothy Dunnigan (Addieville, Ill.), Rebecca Lindstrom (Rockford, Ill.) and Ivan Stoyanov (Sofia, Bulgaria); sophomores Nishant Timilsina (Kathmandu, Nepal) and Nicki Wilhelm (Mascoutah, Ill.); and first-year student Emily Eilermann (Breese, Ill.). Accompanying the students were advisers Dr. Brian Parsons and Dr. Jean Sampson.
Nine students received first place accolades in competitions ranging from sports management and marketing to statistical analysis. McKendree accrued another ten second and third place finishes. Nine students placing first or second place in their respective events qualified for competition at the National Leadership Conference, to be held in Atlanta, GA June 21st – 24th. In addition, Wilhelm was elected to state Secretary, and Wilhelm and Ratermann were recognized as state Ambassadors.
The McKendree chapter also received several awards at the conference. McKendree was recognized as the chapter with the largest increase in membership at 373%. The students received second place awards for their Local Chapter Annual Business Report, Largest Membership (34 students) and took second place in the Battle of the Chapters competition. The scrapbook of the year’s events received third place honors.
Phi Beta Lambda is the national business organization for college and university students. It is the post-secondary branch of Future Business Leaders of America. The organization supports and encourages student activities and success at the local, state and national levels. The aim is to prepare students for successful careers after college and to help them distinguish themselves.
