Leadership Scholarship Event Brings the Best & Brightest to Campus
McKendree University welcomes more than 250 high school students and their families
to campus for Leadership Scholarship Weekend. Hailing from more than 100 high schools,
these students are academic achievers who are typically involved in an impressive
number of co-curricular activities.
The Leadership Scholarship, which has a maximum value of $5,000 annually, is available
to students who have been awarded a McKendree University Presidential or Honors Scholarship
and attend the event. Students complete two personal interviews and submit an essay
while they are on campus. During the interviews, panels of faculty, alumni, students
and staff members learn a bit more about individual students. There are also opportunities
to meet with support service staff, ask questions, and explore college life at McKendree.
Honors Scholarships, valued at $12,000 annually, are awarded to students at the time
of admission who have both a 3.6 GPA and a composite ACT score of 27 or higher. Presidential
Scholarships, valued at $8,000 annually, are awarded to students at the time of admission
who have both a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) and a composite ACT score of 22 or higher.
“When we award scholarships, we take every aspect of a student’s profile into consideration,”
said Chris Hall, vice president for admission and financial aid. “We’re looking for
outstanding students who will contribute to the life of our campus and benefit from
the high academic quality that McKendree provides.
