Teaching Interests:

Creativity, Abnormal Psychology, Stress Management, Clinical and Counseling Psychology, and Personality Theory all fascinate me.  The creative personality, factors related to the development of that personality, what it is that differentiates each of us as individuals, and how we can help each other by the use of the therapeutic process.

Research Interests:

Creativity and personality development, but also the wide range of research interests of my students and our joint exploration in Experimental Psychology and Research Methods, helps me to remain diversified and to keep academic life exciting.

Selected Publications:

Books: Teaching Critical Thinking in Psychology, FIPSE grant, Alverno Press

Workbooks: Guide for Creative Problem Solving, Illinois State Gifted Program

Articles: Do Creative Children Behave Differently?, Journal of Creative Behavior

Teaching Philosophy:

I have a pilot’s license and was also chosen as a member of the underwater exploratory test crew for the Jules Undersea Habitat.  However, the classroom continues to be the most exciting place one can be.  It really is an exhilarating journey of exploration.  I believe that the ability to apply psychology to one’s personal life and to those around us is also the most relevant journey we can make.  Thus classroom instruction should provide both theory and pragmatic application.  The interactive transfer from one to the other is what keeps a classroom alive.
