Major: Business Administration

Current Position: Account Manager

How did you first become interested in your field of study?

That is a difficult question to answer, because I didn't have a clear career path in mind when I decided to finish my degree. When I began taking classes at McKendree, I was working for Enterprise Rent-A-Car. My time with that company opened my eyes to all of the various aspects involved in making a business function. It instilled a spirit of entrepreneurship within me, and I decided that Business Administration would provide me with multiple options to pursue in the future.

Describe your career path since graduating from McKendree.

The first time I graduated from McKendree (undergraduate degree), I had the amazing opportunity to join the staff of the Kentucky Campuses as the Director of Admissions and Corporate Learning. It was awesome! In that role, I had the chance to share my story and help other adult learners change their lives by obtaining a college degree. I could tell them from personal experience what a great place McKendree was to make that happen. I also had the chance to partner with community leaders working on initiatives that promoted the connection between higher education and economic development. While I worked at McKendree, we launched the MSN and MBA programs at the Kentucky Campuses. That led to me completing my MBA with an emphasis in International Business from McKendree.

After graduating from McKendree the second time (with my MBA), I spent the next 4 years working in corporate healthcare. During that time I led teams that conducted training classes programs, as well as executing several organizational development programs. Recently (June 2013), I decided to return to my roots and to higher education. I now work for a company called The Learning House as an Account Manager. I get to spend my time at work partnering with schools around the country to grow their online learning opportunities. It is the perfect role for me because of my professional experience, and I truly enjoy my co-workers and my clients.

Was there a professor, advisor, or fellow student who made an impression on you or helped you when you were at McKendree?

There were MANY people that made impressions upon me during my time at McKendree. My fellow students encouraged me to keep going so that we could graduate together. There were two professors that impacted me in a significant way. Dr. Jack Early asked us to complete an activity for his class in which we were required to write our resume based upon 5 years in the future. That gave me a chance to dream and gave me light at the end of the tunnel. Whenever I felt like giving up, I would pull out that resume and find the strength to keep going. Philippe Deprez not only opened my eyes to a global perspective, but challenged us to not just search for the right answer, but to learn how to think through the answer. His class made me a better person, not just a better professional.

What are your hobbies?

I'm involved at my church, Springdale Community Church, in Louisville, KY. I get to travel for work, and I enjoy traveling for fun as well. I am addicted to Pure Barre fitness classes, and I enjoy the challenge of the workout. My favorite thing to do when I'm not working is to spend time with family, especially my nieces and nephews. I may be partial, but I think they are the best thing in the world.
