McKendree University Solar Eclipse Event

Total Solar Eclipse
WHEN:

Monday, August 21, 2017 from 12:00-1:30 p.m.

McKendree offices will officially close from 1:00-1:30 p.m.

The peak of the eclipse in our area will be at 1:18 p.m.

WHERE:

The Holman Library will have information and protective eyewear.  NEVER LOOK DIRECTLY AT THE SUN WITHOUT WEARING PROPER PROTECTIVE EYEWEAR.

The campus is invited to gather by the Bearcat Statue and spread across the quad toward 1828 and the fountain.

WHAT:

Food and beverages will be for sale by 1828.

Music by the library.

Please bring a folding chair or blanket to enjoy the event.

The bookstore will have a limited number of eclipse t-shirts for sale.

A FEW NOTES:

  • Protective glasses will be provided for faculty, staff, and students (Unfortunately we don’t have enough eyeglasses to distribute to friends and family, please bring your own protective eyewear if you have it).

  • Taking photos of the eclipse with your camera will be difficult due to the eyewear and may even damage some phones. It is recommended that you enjoy the event without attempting to take photos of the eclipse.

  • If it is rainy or very cloudy, this will disrupt the ability to see the eclipse and the event may be cancelled.

  • If you have any questions, please contact Tami Eggleston, Associate Dean and Umbraphile, tegglest@mckendree.edu.
