Social Science Division
Mission Statement

The Social Sciences Division addresses the mission of McKendree University with a special focus on a diverse society, the individual within society, the interaction between the two, and the social structures of our society.  We provide an educational environment which enables our students to be knowledgeable about these factors and prepares our students to think and write analytically and creatively about the problems of our society.  They should be able to develop the expertise to research social issues and to be educated consumers of research.  Students are expected to become contributing professionals in the fields of political science, sociology, psychology, or professional counseling.  This is done within a framework of concern about ethical approaches to these issues and a sense of social responsibility toward them.
