Renewing Materials

All McKendree circulating materials may be renewed online within I-Share, in person or by telephone. Interlibrary loan materials (items from other schools) must be renewed by the patron online within I-Share. ILL materials cannot be renewed by the circulation desk staff. Please renew items on or before the due date. Renewal of ILL materials is dependent on the lending library's policies.

Renewing Instructions
The following procedure is for McKendree items as well as those from other ILCSO schools. Log into I-Share. Select "My Account" on the black bar; type in your Library Borrower ID and Last Name.

In order to avoid using the Social Security number, we have now changed all faculty, staff & students over to a special 14-digit Library Borrower ID. All ID numbers start with a 2401100 prefix to identify ourselves as McKendree University patrons. This is followed by the 7-digit Datatel # to equal 14 digits. For example, 24011000789321.

When your account comes up on the screen, select the items for renewal. After selecting the items, press the "Renew Selected Items" bar. Then scroll down your account to be sure the items were renewed. Renewal of interlibrary loan materials is dependent on the lending libraries policies. If you have specific questions, please call 537-6950 or email libcirculation@mckendree.edu.

Loan Periods
McKendree faculty, staff and student ID cards also serve as library cards. The McKendree picture ID card MUST be presented to check out materials at Holman Library. Use of the picture ID card will allow us to discontinue the practice of using Social Security #s.

The loan period for the regular book collection, government documents, curriculum materials, software and juvenile collection is four weeks for all library users except faculty and graduate students who have sixteen weeks. Audiovisual materials, including videos and CD’s, circulate for a one week period. Reference materials and periodicals (current and back issues) must be used in the library and may not be checked out.

Overdues / Fines

All patrons are sent reminders when materials are not returned by the due date. Any materials not returned within six weeks after the due date are considered lost. The charge is the cost of the item plus a $10.00 processing fee. Materials borrowed from other schools are subject to the fine policies of the lending school. If the matter is not resolved within the designated time, the charges will be added to the patron’s account in the Business Office.

Reserve Materials

Materials are placed on Reserve by faculty members so that all students have access to those resources. Loan periods vary according to the request of the faculty member:

Loan Period Due Back Fine
Library Only 2 hours $.50 per hour
Overnight 2 hours after
library opens
$1 first hr;
$.50 each added hr
3 or 7 Days Stamped Date $1 per day

Maximum fine for each item is $5.00.
