BSN Program
McKendree has offered a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree since 1978. The program is offered exclusively as a completion program for graduates of associate degree or diploma nursing programs. The BSN completion program is offered at various site locations including 3 McKendree campuses, 6 community colleges, and 6 hospitals throughout Southern Illinois & Kentucky. The majority of required nursing courses are offered in a classroom setting. The core courses (general education) are offered in an online format along with the nursing elective courses.
The McKendree Bachelor of Science in Nursing program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, Inc. (NLNAC).
BSN Program Goals
1. Prepare nurses to integrate the knowledge from nursing and the arts and sciences into nursing practice.
2. Develop life-long learners.
BSN Program Outcomes
Upon completion of the program, the student will be able to:
• Demonstrate critical thinking skills by integrating knowledge from various disciplines.
• Synthesize knowledge from the art and science of nursing as a basis for nursing practice.
• Analyze the effects of social, cultural and environmental components on health status.
• Utilize assessment to plan nursing care for individuals, families, groups, and communities.
• Demonstrate professional communication skills in interactions.
• Apply leadership principles to professional practice.
• Incorporate nursing research into evidence-based nursing practice.
Tuition for the program is $245 per credit hour. Grant and loan information is available through the
Financial Aid Department.
