While studying for a career in physical education, the student will develop skills,
knowledge and techniques required of contemporary physical educators. The development
and continued well-being of the human body also lies within the domain of physical
education.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Department of Physical Education is to facilitate the teaching
of physical education concepts, the development of skills, and the provision of opportunities
for students to become physically educated persons who respect and value wellness
and lifelong learning. This is achieved through the study and application of human
movement principles via coursework and experiences related to physical activity, exercise
and sport.
McKendree’s Physical Education program is NCATE accreditted.

Major Tracks
Physical Education
Students seeking teacher education certification must complete the requirements for both the Illinois Initial Secondary (Type 09) and the Initial Special K-12 (Type 10) certificates. You must also take and pass the physical education content area test. Non-teaching majors must complete the required physical education coursework and are encouraged to complete an internship in a physical education related setting.
