Humanities' Highlights

Dr, Jenny Mueller (English and Creative Writing) won the 16th Annual Poetry Award, given by Elixir Press, which is located in Denver, CO.. As a result of winning the award, Dr. Mueller will have her book manuscript, titled State Park, published by Elixir Press in 2016. Dr. Mueller's manuscript was selected from a large national pool of entrants for publication, in a contest judged by poet Adrian Matejka. State Park will be her second full-length book of poetry. The first, Bonneville, was published by Elixir in 2007. Dr. Mueller also has published two chapbooks of poetry.

Dr. Rich Murphy (Speech Communications and Public Relations) will be chairing a panel, "Where Should I Build my Foundation? Determining the Type of Institution that Fits you," at the 2016 meeting of the Central States Communication Association. Dr. Murphy's panel won the "Top Panel" prize.

Creative writing minor Kenny O'Dell has had a short story accepted for publication in the North Central Review. NCR is one of the few nationwide undergraduate literary journals. Kenny competed against undergraduate students in the US as well as students abroad.
