It’s the 50th anniversary of National Library Week, a time to celebrate the contributions of libraries, librarians and library workers in schools, campuses and communities nationwide. First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association and libraries across the country each April.

Holman Library is celebrating National Library Week in several ways.  Monday, April 14, will begin the Great Book Giveaway Extravaganza. Visit the Periodicals Room and select from hundreds of books, free for the taking!

We’re also having drawings for terrific prizes. Fill out an online survey http://survey.mckendree.edu/Library_Survey.asp and you’ll be eligible for one of several gifts. Students will have a chance at (3) $10 Borders gift cards, (2) $10 gas cards, a Body & Bath lotion set, an alarm clock and the Grand Prize of a Final Exam Week gift basket! Faculty and staff who complete the survey have a chance at (2) 1GB flash drives and a Laptop bag! Winners will be announced April 21.

“Everyday, libraries in big cities and small towns, colleges and universities, in schools and in businesses help transform their communities,” says Debbie Houk, Interim Director of Holman Library.  “At our library, people of all backgrounds can come together to do research with the assistance of a trained professional, stay connected with free Internet access, watch a film, find a corner for quiet study, and participate in club and community meetings, lectures and programs.”
