New Teaching List Serve

The new list serve is called Teaching Email Discussion Group, and it is designed to be an informal venue for discussing teaching frustrations and joys as well as sharing articles and ideas about strategies that have and have not worked in the classroom.  The long-term goal is to create an archive of past discussions, articles, etc. as a resource for everyone.  But, in the short term, the list serve should generate an interdisciplinary supportive dialogue.  This list serve is open to all faculty (part-time and full-time) and at any McK location (e.g., Kentucky, Scott, AIM, graduate programs, Lebanon, etc.).  Feel free to post a question, an issue, an article, or a success story!  If someone would like to be added to the list serve, please contact Martha Patterson, Associate Professor of English, at MHPatterson@mckendree.edu.

For more information on any faculty development issues, please contact Tami Eggleston, Professor of Psychology and Interim Associate Dean at tegglest@mckendree.edu.

The primary goal of McKendree is be an exceptional teaching institution.  To assist that aim we hire the best possible teachers and instructors.  In addition, we have a variety of faculty development initiatives to further develop the teaching potential of all faculty members.  First, the Faculty Affairs Council (FAC) organizes a series of professional development seminars for new full-time faculty on topics ranging from tenure to technology.  Second, the faculty development committee nominates full-time faculty for sabbaticals to the Board of Trustees.  In addition, the associate dean provides financial assistance for full-time faculty wishing to present at or attend teaching or professional conferences.
The associate dean also works with the Provost to develop the faculty bulletin, if you have items to share, please email them to tegglest@mckendree.edu.

TEACHING WORKSHOP
Piper Academic Center Room 222
More information will be emailed.
For more information or to RSVP please call
Rosie Hustedde at 537-6812.

During the academic year we will have a variety of teaching workshops that all instructors are welcome to attend.

In the Spring of 2008 we started a new teaching faculty development program called, “Teaching Circles.”  McKendree University's Faculty Teaching Circles provides a non-threatening forum for faculty to enhance their teaching skills and build camaraderie.  Faculty participants observe each other in the classroom and then meet to discuss what works well.  This fall we may even try an e-circle for faculty teaching online.  The program focuses on different teaching styles and other aspects of teaching, while eliminating evaluations and judgments.  If you are interested in joining or would like more information, please contact Ann Collins, Assistant Professor of Political Science, avcollins@mckendree.edu, (618)537-6897. All faculty (new faculty, part-time faculty, full-time faculty, and seasoned faculty) are invited to join the circle.
