Vice President For Administration & Finance

McKendree University invites nominations and applications for the position of Vice President for Administration and Finance. Reporting directly to the President, the VP for Administration and Finance will provide leadership for budget planning, fiscal management, and operations of the university. As a member of the President’s Group, the VP will work collaboratively with the other senior administrators to allocate and manage resources to ensure delivery of a high-quality educational experience for undergraduate and graduate students on the Lebanon, Illinois, campus, and in its Worldwide Programs.

 

The VP will supervise the Comptroller, the Director of Student Accounts, the Accounts Payable Specialist, the Director of Human Resources, the Director of Operations, the Director of Public Safety, and the Director of the Physical Plant.  In addition, the VP oversees the relationship between the University and our Physical Plant, Food Service and Bookstore contractors.

 

Responsibilities

  • Serve as chief financial officer of the University responsible for coordinating budget planning, preparation, and execution.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for control of expenditures and maximizing revenue.
  • Maintain accounting systems for the fund groups under which the University operates – unrestricted, temporarily restricted, and permanently restricted. Supervise maintenance of individual student accounts.
  • Serve as a member of the President's Group to provide overall leadership to the University.
  • Provide executive oversight of the University personnel functions, to include hiring and dismissal, affirmative action, employee evaluation, insurance, benefits, and retirement program including participation on the Retirement Plan Committee for the University.
  • Coordinate management information system requirements of the computer center with the Director of Information Technology.
  • Oversee operation of the Bookstore through liaison with the Director of Operations and on-site campus contractor.
  • Provide executive oversight of the Print Shop/Mail Room and facility and transportation resources with the Director of Operations.
  • Oversee preventive and corrective maintenance and provide executive oversight of the Physical Plant through liaison with the individual area supervisors and Director of Physical Plant.
  • Provide executive oversight of the Food Service operation through liaison with the on- site campus contractor.
  • Supervise administration of Perkins Loan Program collection efforts, including litigation against borrowers in default status.
  • Serve as resource person to the Board of Trustees Committee on Financial Affairs and Endowment and the Investment Committee. Provide advice to the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees regarding financial matters.
  • Assist in developing proposals as required for federal and foundation grants.
  • Coordinate campus property insurance and claims procedures.
  • Provide construction management for all capital improvement and initial construction projects serving as liaison to architects and general contractors.
  • Serve as liaison to City of Lebanon administrative officials and departments.
  • Participate in the life of the University by regularly attending University functions and activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the President.

 Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years progressive responsibility in administration or associated field.
  • Successful business and financial leadership in a dynamic non-profit organization, preferably in higher education.
  • Proficiency in appropriate financial and administrative software applications. Datatel experience is desirable.

 Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience with Datatel.
  • CPA certification.
