National Youth Service Day
Description: National Youth Service Day is a nation-wide annual event held in mid- to late April. McCat members, the McKendree football team, and Lebanon grade school students all get together around 1 or 2 p.m. at Lebanon Grade School and do a large variety of separate service activities on Friday April 20, 2007, in the area (could be at nursing homes, parks, churches, schools, etc.). After the services are performed (usually around 3:30 or 4 that afternoon), we all come together to eat pizza at the school.
What's the point of that? This event helps the youth in the Lebanon community to get involved in service activities. Some events that have been accomplished on NYSD in the past have been picking up trash around Lebanon, cleaning the parks, painting, planting flowers at nursing homes, visiting with nursing home residents, mulching the gardens at Lebanon Grade School, etc.
