McCat Information
McCat: McKendree Action Team
Purpose and Goal
McCat is an organization designed to facilitate the implementatioin of several aspects of the college mission through a program of community service and personal reflection. The McKendree Mission includes the following points:
“To offer students curricular and extracurricular programs through which they may be informed and responsible citizens.”
“To cooperate with students in the development of a constructive social and emotional adjustment and a code of behavior in harmony with Christian ideals and democratic values.”
McCat will provide McKendree students with an opportunity to explore their roles as citizens in a democratic society and to reflect on the responsibilities which come with citizenship. This will be achieved through assigned readings, speakers, group and team discussions, and community service activities.
Operation of Program

Recruiting
Interested students will be recruited during NSO and at the time of registration in the fall and spring semesters. The campus newspaper, booths and displays, bulletin board posters, brochures, and word-of-mouth will be used as methods to publicize the program and recruit participants. Students who are interested will be asked to complete an application form providing the coordinators with information regarding skills, interests, experience, references, and health status. Students will be invited to an orientation session to learn more about the program. Coordinators will be responsible for reviewing applications and conducting interviews with volunteers. Every attempt will be made to match student interests and abilities with needs of participating agencies.
Programs
McCat will organize opportunities that allow students to work in community service projects at various locations across the nation during holidays and summer vacations.
Recognition
Each year, an awards ceremony will honor the dedication and commitment of the students involved in the program.
