Student Volunteers
Incoming Freshmen:
Exciting things are happing at McKendree in the area of volunteerism and we are looking for students with a demonstrated commitment to community service to join us.  We are offering 3 scholarships that can be up to half-tuition to students who have record volunteering during their high school years.  The scholarship is highly competitive.  If you are interested, please submit a letter of application describing your volunteer activities, an essay reflecting on the value of community service and your personal contributions to the community, and two letters of recommendation from people familiar with your community service.  A team of faculty and current community scholars will review the applications on February 19, 2008.

McKendree values experiential education and takes seriously its mission of helping students achieve personal growth, an awareness of social responsibility, and an appreciation of the diversity of culture within the human community.  Students have an opportunity to enroll in courses in which service becomes an integral part of the learning experience.  Many of our students, staff, and faculty are involved in a wide array of volunteer activities serving the local community.  During the course of the school year, the Center for Public Service hosts a variety of special projects such as Special Olympics, Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week and our New Student Orientation Intro the Streets project which are developed and coordinated by our students.
